When it comes to food photography and commercial photography, few events offer as much creative energy as the Sol over Gudhjem chefs competition in Denmark. As a commercial photographer, I had the unique opportunity to work alongside the best chefs in Denmark, transforming their culinary masterpieces into mouthwatering visuals that tell a story far beyond the plate.

The Art of Food Photography at Sol over Gudhjem

On a stunning summer day in 2025, the Sol over Gudhjem competition brought together Denmark’s top culinary talent. The atmosphere was electric, with the sun shining and the scent of gourmet dishes filling the air. Behind the scenes, my team and I set up a small on-location studio—no easy feat when the wind is constantly threatening to knock over reflectors and warm dishes quickly turn cold. This is where the true challenge of food photography comes into play: speed, precision, and creativity are essential.

Commercial Photography in Action: Turning Food into Visual Magic

In commercial photography, especially food photography, time is critical. When the chefs presented their dishes, I had just 3–5 minutes to capture every angle, shoot directly to the computer, and edit the images for a fast turnaround. The pressure was on, but that’s what makes commercial photography so rewarding. Each shot demanded careful attention to lighting, composition, and the unique personality of every dish.
